  • Major platforms disagree on the ideal posting hour: Buffer suggests 09:00, while Metricool recommends 20:00.
  • Your account insights show exactly when your followers are online, as long as you have more than 100 followers.
  • Consistency matters more than the clock. The head of Instagram prefers two posts a week over a long period rather than daily posts for a few months.

The best time to post on Instagram depends entirely on your audience. A café in Koukaki catering to students has completely different peak hours than a medical clinic in Marousi targeting working parents. Any attempt to find a single universal hour fails.

Social media management companies analyze millions of posts every year to find patterns. The numbers are large, but the conclusions often conflict. These studies measure data from around the world to calculate averages. They mistakenly present a local time as a universal rule.

Understanding them helps you build your initial strategy. If you know when general activity happens, you know where to start testing. You need to combine global trends with your own reality.

The 2026 map: What the major studies reveal

Reading the reports from top social media companies shows that the perfect hour is a global myth. Each platform reaches different conclusions based on its sample.

Buffer’s 2026 study of 9.6 million posts shows the three best times are Thursday at 09:00, and Wednesday at 12:00 and 18:00. The same study ranks Friday and Saturday as the worst days. Its own internal benchmarks for the same year showed a peak on Friday at 15:00.

Sprout Social examined almost 2 billion interactions and suggests Tuesday from 13:00 to 19:00 and Wednesday from 12:00 to 21:00. Hootsuite used 2025 data to recommend Monday from 15:00 to 21:00. Almost all of them agree that the hours from midnight to 04:00 are dead.

Company / Study Best Times Best Days Sample Size
Buffer (2026) 09:00 (Thu), 12:00 & 18:00 (Wed) Wednesday, Thursday, Tuesday 9.6 million posts
Sprout Social (2026) 13:00-19:00 (Tue), 12:00-21:00 (Wed) Tuesday, Wednesday 2 billion interactions
Metricool (2026) 18:00-21:00 Monday, Wednesday 24.3 million posts
SocialPilot (2026) 07:00-08:00 Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday 7 million posts

Later includes post formats in its research. It suggests posting reels at midnight on Monday and carousels at 05:00 on Tuesday. SocialPilot ignores the afternoon and sets 07:00 as the top hour.

The Greek reality: What is the best time to post on Instagram?

International studies rely on data from their own markets. The daily schedule in Greece differs greatly from Northern Europe or the US. The lunch break happens later, shops close late in the evening and social life starts after 21:00.

There is currently no reliable study analyzing posting times exclusively for Greece. Existing articles, like a 2021 piece from in.gr suggesting 10:00 to 15:00, simply repeat outdated American data.

We do know the size of the local market. NapoleonCat reported that Greece had 5,360,700 Instagram users in September 2026, which is 49.3% of the population. Women make up 53.1%, while the largest share belongs to the 25-34 age group with 1,482,400 users.

The platform shows strong seasonal fluctuations. Users reached 5.93 million in June 2026. August saw a 14.7% increase, followed by an 8.3% drop in September. These numbers come from Meta’s advertising tools and inflate during the tourist season.

The national average means little to a hair salon in Kalamaria or an e-shop in Patras. The “Top locations” section in your statistics is a precise guide for geographic targeting.

Insights never lie: A reading guide

Your own account data is the only way to solve this. Instagram provides this for free under two conditions. First, you need a professional profile, either Creator or Business. Second, you need at least 100 followers, according to the Instagram Help Centre.

The path to finding out when your audience is online is simple:

  1. Open the mobile app and go to your profile.
  2. Tap “Professional dashboard” below your bio, then “See all insights”. Or tap the three lines at the top right, go to “For professionals” and choose “Insights”.
  3. Open “Total followers”. This records activity from the last 90 days.
  4. Scroll down to “Most active times”. You can switch between “Hours” and “Days”.

On a computer, the path is: instagram.com > “Dashboard” on the left > “Insights” > “Account”, then scroll down to “Followers”. In Meta Business Suite, the same data is under “Audience”.

Content always beats the clock

Chasing the perfect hour often distracts from the real goal of consistency and quality. Algorithms reward accounts that keep their audience engaged over time.

“I’d rather you post twice a week for two years than every day for two months and then quit.”

Adam Mosseri, head of Instagram (broadcast channel message, 2025, as reported)

Your publishing schedule should serve your business, not exhaust you. An excellent post at the wrong time will always bring more engagement than a rushed reel at the absolute peak hour.

Try the 30-minute rule: Buffer suggests publishing 30 to 60 minutes before traffic peaks in your insights. If the chart peaks at 18:00, schedule your post for 17:00 to 17:30. This allows the post to gather its first likes and get an organic push from the algorithm exactly when the majority of your followers log on.

The A/B testing strategy is simple. Choose two different time slots, like Tuesday morning and Thursday evening, and stick to them strictly for three weeks. Publish similar content and compare the saves and shares, not just the likes. Keep only what works for you and ignore general rules.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best time to post a photo on Instagram?

There is no single hour. Studies vary, suggesting times from 07:00 to 21:00. The ideal time is what your own account insights indicate, usually 30 to 60 minutes before peak activity.

When should I post on Instagram if I don’t have insights yet?

Most platforms agree that weekdays, especially Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, perform better than weekends. If you have to guess, 18:00 to 19:00 is the only time recommended by four of the six major studies.

What was the best time to post on Instagram in 2024?

The Sprout Social guide for 2025 gave Monday to Thursday, 10:00 to 15:00, as the best window. There is no Greek measurement for that year.

What was the best time to post on Instagram in 2025?

According to Hootsuite, the best hours varied by day. Monday performed well from 15:00 to 21:00. Tuesday showed strength early in the morning from 05:00 to 08:00 and in the afternoon from 15:00 to 19:00. The hours after midnight remained consistently low.

Scheduling takes time, which is rarely plentiful in a business. If you want to automate the process, InstaBot reads your website and Instagram, learns your style and creates posts, carousels and reels. In Autopilot, you set days and times for each post type. Once you find your time in your insights, you enter it once and your posts always go out then. If you do not set a time, the Best times option applies a ready-made one for each type. It also gathers reach, likes and comments for all your networks in a single dashboard, with costs starting at €19/month.
